Vented Gas Cap
#3
Went thru about 3 of the 'low' profile locking gas cap and although I prefer them found they only lasted me a few months before the locking mechanism fails and removing the cap became a problem. Don't recall who the manufacturer was and either purchased from local auto parts store and/or E-bay.

Finally went to Napa store and purchased a locking gas cap, gave them the yr. and model and seem to recall there were a couple of choices so I tried the choices before purchasing. Difficult to make out the number it looks like Napa P/N: 7031113, and been on the truck for the past several years. .

Leaks
Thanks guys. I have a cap like the one Dave posted in the picture. Not sure where I bought it. Don't think that I got it at Napa. Not sure if it's vented....it leaks. Has kind of ruined the paint on the side of the cab. Figured that since it leaks, it isn't properly vented. The truck had a non-locking cap on it when I bought it and the side of the truck showed no signs of leaking.
Thanks, Patrick

Hey Patrick, it is not a bad cap but owner/driver error. YOU CAN NOT fill the tanks on these ol trucks without driving 3-5 gallons of gas out and not park them drivers side high to keep the heat from expanding the gas and pouring it out on the ground.
It is a long known issue that if dwelt with properly costs nothing, just a little management. It has been going on since the late 40s to about 73.

I have had part number 51- 24531 for about 4 years now no issues at all on my 64 F250 They list it at $10 but if you put it in the shopping cart it shows up at $9. I buy directly from them as they are just a few miles from my home.. They are great people and very knowledgeable... Good luck

Not familiar with this Ford part supplier, browsed their catalog and found a number of items other supplier's don't carry. Bookmarked and will have to give them a try and as long as they can deliver w/in a week intend giving them my business. Thanks for the referral.

They are a re-pop manufacturer, along with distributor for other companies. Every time I go there they are quite crowded, and quite a few of the customers are professional's in the restoration industry. They have two shops next to each other, one for GM and one for Ford...

Thanks
Jetcopterpilot, thanks for that link. I have never seen this site before and I think that I am going to try that cap. Oddly enough, the cap that I have on my truck now, that was sold to me as the correct one for my truck, looks exactly like the one pictured for the 71-72 trucks on your link. Might explain why it doesn't work!
Thanks to all. I might buy a couple of other parts from them too when I get the cap.
Thanks again, Patrick
