02 F250 Super Duty 5.4

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <woNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> Out of the blue my temp gauge pegs hot and engine appears to flood badly. The engine is not hot at all; my scanner says 1299 code for head heat protection? Strangely enough you could simply turn the key of and back on and the temp gauge returns to normal and runs good.
It is progressively getting worse! I have found that if you accelerate quickly it run fine however at an idle it now lopes badly?? Any Ideas??

Check your coolant level to make sure that it's filled as an air bubble under the CHT will cause it spike the temp reading. If the coolant level is good and the system doesn't have air in it, replace the CHT.
