88 f150 5.0 efi performance upgrades?

Does anyone know of a way to get 275hp-350hp out of my 88 truck 302 efi motor and what parts do I need to convert it to mass air and where can I get them? p.s. I would like to keep/upgrade to a better truck throttle body and improve my engine torque while keeping it drivable the trans is the 5speed manual.

275hp is possible with a cam and full exhaust.. that's about what the stock heads flow and the cam in this particular vintage motor is the biggest bottleneck keeping you from getting it. Much more than that requires heads, MAF conversion and fuel system upgrades(pump and injectors). With a manual trans the best way to MAF is with a mustang computer/MAF combo and a conversion harness, these are available from aftermarket suppliers or you can make your own from a junkyard harness, the former being plug and play while the latter requires inserting pins and wires into the stock truck EEC connector.

All this extra power comes at higher rpms, stock the 5.0 makes peaks HP at about 3500rpm and with mods this increases to 5000rpm or more but that's the nature of the beast the little windsor needs to rev to make power. So gears are unavoidable... with 35's the truck should have nothing less than 4.56 gears in the axles.

I have the same engine and truck. Did you ever find out what to do for more hp? I have headers and a freeflow air system with two filters that helps, but not a whole lot. I was thinking cam but try finding an appropriate one. Thanks. Tom.

I'm a little more interested in a bigger low end oomph if anyone cares to drop some knowledge.

Exactly. Don't really want to go 100mph in my truck. Just want to get off the line at stoplights faster. LOL!

The same answer that was given in post #3 almost 11 years ago with the exception of converting to mass air. You can now buy an aftermarket computer (PimpX) to tune the speed density system.

You cannot find a camshaft in the dozens of camshaft threads on this forum?

Your options are gears, a stroker kit or 5.8 swap, or forced induction.

Well I wouldn't mind me a turbo, but they're too damn expensive
