Late 04 F550 delamination pics

I didn't take pics of the removal,, but it was fun due to the extra framing under there to support the boom n bucket. Here's the pickup tube

I dropped the HFCM also. Obviously. Nasty filter.

This was from rubbing my hand on the inside of the tank.

I'm sure some of you have seen worse,,, but it's still nasty.

Not cool

This is the remnants of pouring out the fuel tank. These are the actual delaminated pieces. The rest of the red stuff looks to be rust caused by the ulsd on bare metal. Rust

A radiator shop locally has these tanks on the shelf already boiled n relined for $350. I ran cleaner through the lines and blew them all out with compressed air backwards. And forwards, and backwards, ect,, lol. We're gonna reassemble it all then check the fuel pressure. Didn't want to change the fuel pump before fixing what we knew what was wrong. Didn't want to run any more fuel thru there. HFCM is easy enough to change, if need be. Any thoughts guys????

Yep, our work truck is on its 4th fuel tank. 04 F550 6.0. My uncle (boss) went into a class action lawsuit on the last one. He finally got fed up and we just installed a titan fuel tank instead.

There's actually a couple fixes for this. Both the locking ring tanks n the bolt down tanks (the sending unit assembly) are available in poly for around $600. But yes guys,,, it's a F550 with a crane body bucket truck.

Btw,,, why would the Ficm on this b reading 50v?? Would this mean that it had a 58v upgrade that's going bad?? Or just a very healthy 48v one?? My $500 upgrade from Ed on my truck has never hit 50v. It was stabilizing at about 49.5. But would bounce to 50.

There is a good steel tank liner option out there and it's used in
general aviation. I can't remember the name of the process But it
a dump the stuff in and swish it around and dump the remainder
out. It's meant for steel tanks However I would have to look it up
to see if it ok with diesel.
Here is one called RED-KOTE® FUEL TANK LINER
http://damonq.com/techsheets/red-kote.pdf
One warning Red-Kote is only for use lining the inside of fuel tanks containing gasoline or
diesel fuel. Do not use with bio-diesel fuel. Do not use with bio-diesel or racing fuels unless you have discussed
your particular mixture with our chemist to find out if it will work

There are other products that will also do a good job in a pour in coating for
the inside of a steel tank.
