There's a lot of great options for transmissions that match the 300. C4, C6, AOD, and mine has the SRO-RUG. It just seems to me that you would lose some of the benefits of the 300 by mating it to your old sideloader. I want to say it takes a non-standard and expensive bellhousing to get that done, but i'm not sure. I can't remember where I saw that.
I'm in the process of putting a 300 in my 54. It's not a bolt in swap, but it's not too complicated either. You'll need an aftermarket crossmember, about $120. And possibly new motor mounts, but it depends on what year your 300 is. Is it EFI or carb'd? (EFI wasn't introduced until '87)
Head over to this forum and do some searching...I think you'll get your questions answered.
