Any chance you can post a pic of that circuit breaker?

I bought a new 12V dimmer switch from EZwiring for wiring my truck, they wanted about 1/2 what every one else wanted for them. The switch being floor mounted often got wet and dirt got into them, so they corroded, replacing it is cheap insurance IMHO.
That might just be it along with the circuit breaker thing... I have a 12 volt dimmer switch I can take off my bronco and test that out.

Oh, and I did get a 12volt headlight switch from midfifty. I believe it a factory replacement except in a 12v version. Earlier I said just factory switch, sorry

Do they still make standard incandescent (non halogen) sealed beams these days?

It sounds like you have a dead short if it popping a 25a fuse. I would check to make sure none of the power wires are going to ground (should be labeled on the wire, i.e high beam, low beam, running lights, tail lights). After that I would take an ohm meter and check the headlight switch to make sure everything is on the right pole. The dimmer should be ok as long as you wire it correctly, again use an ohm meter to find out.

I just wired my '54 with a rebel wire kit, with the mid fifty 12v stock looking gauges and the power to the gauges are keyed.

I don't think so, but the regular halogen is a great up grade.....no need for the super white or blue ones.

They are around, not at AutoZone, but last time I needed one NAPA had them. You're right tho, most common are halogen direct replacements, same wattage, slightly better lumens.

Got mine at wallyworld and they seem to be working for 4 years without a relay. If they were drawing excessive amperage the circuit breaker would be tripping off and back on at a regular pace.

I'm pretty sure the sealed beams at WW are all halogen.
