Thanks Jim, really have my work cut out for me. Feeling a little over whelmed and excited both at the same time, but like my wife says "it will keep you out of trouble for the most part" LOL. Will try to add some more pics in the next couple of days.

[quote=Blue50F-1;13160341]Here ya go: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...n-cut-off.html

Lots of good info buried in there.

LOL sure is - over 60 pages worth !

Top left of my dash was the wiper switch; I'm guessing someone put in a toggle switch for a one speed wiper motor. Pics might help figure it out, same with the bench.

Here is the pic, the switch is right above the left gauges.

This is the "Bench" seat, maybe it is the original, I have no idea on this one.

I was in a hurry and forgot the rear end pics, sorry.

That is a very nice start....welcome to the 48-56 forum!

I'm trying to convince my wife that my truck keeps me out of trouble. I think a gambling and drinking habit might be less expensive!!!

That is definitely a 51-52 cab. The 48-50 cabs have different dash boards and gauges.

It looks like a 53-55 steering wheel.

+1 to that. That's not a monkey's dash. That's a spreader's dash. Somehow, somewhere along the way that big windowed cab either got a new front clip and bed, or vice versa. Now I'm really curious what the VIN is. Frame rail is stamped just front of the passenger shock mount. If it matches the plate on the firewall...A)are the rivets original? B) can you find the cowl stamp? The cowl stamp will also give a date of manufacture. Finally, what's it titled as?

That's an interesting piece you've got there!

It was to dark last night to see the frame rail, and so far I can not find any stampings on the firewall either. The tags in the glove box and the passenger side of the engine compartment do match and the rivets look to be original.
The first part of the VIN is F1A1AT. It is currently titled as a 1948. I also sent the full VIN to Carl for his spreadsheet.

Any idea about the switch and seat.

Not an expert on these old trucks but I've been around since they were new. I've never seen a seat like that in a std F series cab but that does not mean it is not original. Look at the floor on the passenger side for mounting holes for a full width seat. Have the holes been used?
My SWAG is someone installed the WW toggle switch when they switched from vacuum wipers to electric. Original switch would have been a rotary vacuum switch. But, you probably know all this.
Edit: More thoughts on the seat, truck related. I knew an old boy in FL who had an older Chexx PU with a single bucket seat installed. He ran his egg route in the PU and stacked his eggs where the passenger seat was originally installed.

I'm not a VIN guru, but that's not anywhere near the 48-50 VIN codes I've seen. Certifies you've got a 51 cab. Now all the more to find that frame stamping. If it matches then your "48" truck is actually a "51" in monkey's clothing! If that's the case I'd guess it happened early on and the older model parts were cheaper or more readily available than the "economy built" parts. Then someone titled it off of the look vs. the VIN.

It is possible someone swapped the cab at some point, but short of a tree falling on it I have a hard time figuring out why it would happen. Makes more sense if it got in a wreck and got new fenders and bed. 48 VINs start with 8H or 8R, 49-50 VINs start with 9H or 9R. My guess is the frame will tell you whether it's a 48-50 with a new cab, or a 51-52 with new clothes.

Love the mystery!

Jim

P.S. The seat looks like something out of the old box trucks. Here in Le Mars (The Ice Cream Capitol of the World) the old dairy delivery truck they use in the parades has a seat like that, and I've seen them in several other old delivery trucks.

I was thinking of calling mine the "Teddy Roosevelt", but the name Time Warp seems to have stuck.

I was going to say that the seat looks like something from a school bus.
