07 F150 5.4l Stalls/dies

Hey my name is David im new to the forum but have been lurking for a few years now! I searched but couldn't come up with an exact fix or id already replaced the part. This used to be my old mans truck but he got tired of it always being in the shop so he passed the problems on to me. 2007 F150 XLT 5.4l 4door 4x4. What happens is when the truck is idling or coming to a stop the RPMs will either drop really low or simply die, not all the time but enough to be annoying. Engine light is on. Idle is around 5-600 rpms. The truck runs well with cruising but when it comes to a stop sign it stalls, or when backing out of a driveway and shifting from Reverse to Drive it will stall. So far I have cleaned the throttle body, replaced TPS, both VCT solenoids, both camshaft position sensors, and it seems to run a little better but still stalls. I have four codes come up.

p0016 Crankshaft Position-Camshaft Position
Correlation-Bank 1 Sensor A

p0018 Crankshaft Position-Camshaft Position
Correlation-Bank 2 Sensor A

p0012 Intake Camshaft Position Timing-Over Retarted Bank 1

p0022 Intake Camshaft Position Timing-Over Retarted Bank 2

We took it to the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong. They then wanted take the front cover off and look at the timing chain/tensioners, but they wanted $3500 to do it. Im pretty mechanically inclined but I need some help on this. Could this be an electrical problem or am I going to have to tear into the engine?

I didn't see cleaned your mass airflow sensor in there. You should definitely do that. Does your truck have the infamous diesel sound? Also have you reset the PCM? You should try this, disconnect your battery and clean your mass airflow sensor with cleaner of the same name and let it dry. Then when it's dry put it back together hook up the battery and give it a shot. Hope that helps.

Oh and check the fpdm above the spare tire those tend to go.

So I cleaned the MAF sensor and the throttle body again, runs alittle better. Ive been driving it for a day and it hasn't died or stalled but the engine light came on again. It has a slight dieseling sound but not bad. Does anyone have any ideas as where to look next? Do I need to look at the timing chain and tension?

The diesel sound can be a few things, first on the list is most likely the cam phasers. Also bad lifters can sound like that, fuel injectors can sound like that even an exhaust manifold leak can sound like that. There is a tech video when I remember the site ill post it that goes through all the sound normal or bad it's a great video. If you we're to bring it to ford they might say that's a normal operating sound. Mine has the diesel sound but has been running great so I'm not going to worry about it until I save enough money to fix it. If I were you I'd watch the video I believe it's on flatratetech.com episode 22 or something, that video will help you determine what your sound is and what to do. Good luck let us know what you find.
