Dual exhaust on '55 239
Well I finally got around to putting the Rams Horns on my 239 and removed the cross-over pipe. This is the first time I have ever gone from a single exhaust to a dual. Every dual I've ever owned had been done before I got the vehicles. I am truly amazed at the difference the rams horns and duals have made! I can actually feel the truck breathing better going down the highway. Around town there's not much difference but man you can really feel it about 45 mph and higher. Should have done this last year when I bought them. Now I need to adjust the carb as I can smell it running rich after the change. This is the most enjoyable thing I've done to my truck in a long time!

I got them from Mummert last year for $350, plus another $350 at the local muffler shop to run the pipes and 2 turbo-sonic mufflers. I wanted sound but not something to drone me to sleep on long rides. I took some pics right before removing the old exhaust and will put some before/afters up tomorrow hopefully.

I got the before and afters into my album. It really cleaned up things a lot by going under rather than over the engine. The cross-over pipe was kinda nostalgic and got a lot of questions from people who had never seen that type of set up, but I would not go back to it after feeling what it drives like with the duals. I had to bend the dipstick tube slightly to get it to fit right.

Had to be careful not to bend it too much and get a kink in it (the truck's). Mummert makes a stainless steel one for use with the rams horns but he didn't have any currently available. will probably switch to one when/if he gets any made up. I plan to spend some time with the carb Monday and get it adjusted right. I do love the way it smells running rich though...
