94 F250 Fuel Delivery Question

Hello all!

So I've searched to the point of exasperation and I have found nothing on this topic. There is a FPR on the outlet side of the fuel rail, that is there for obvious reasons. What in the world (?!) is the fuel regulator appearing thing on the INLET line. It is not vacuum controlled but looks like an FPR. Is it to keep flow speed down or something? I cannot find mention of this regulator anywhere and I don't understand why it needs to be there?

Thanks!!

What size engine do you have?

Can you post a photo of what you are talking about or email it to me? My email address is at the bottom of this post.

I have no idea what that is.
Does not look stock to me.

He emailed:
It's the 5.8.

Here are some pictures:

Unit in question is the silver guy near the firewall with the blue fuel line coming out.

It looks something like the propane regulator that I have seen someplace.
Was this truck duel fuel by any chance?

Alright, so after standing on my head with a mirror tucked in my right arm, flashlight in my mouth and lots of grunting, I was able to get some degree of a part number off of it. Turns out it wasn't the right number, but it did solve the mystery... sort-of.

It's a fuel-pulse damper. Supposedly its to reduce the pulses from the fuel pump to prevent pressure surge.

I wonder if it was a '93/'94 thing? My truck is an April 1994 build.

Ok so here's my theory on the whole thing. Since the pre-'96 rigs were bank fire SD trucks they had 4 injectors fire at a time. This probably made a big enough drop in the fuel rail to cause pressure surges that could be heard in the line. Once they went to sequential fire with MAF and/or OBD-II there was only 1 injector firing at a time which is less fuel rail trauma aka pressure drop...

Does that sound reasonable?

My 1994 460 does not have the item and it is SD bank fired.
My 1988 & 1989 vans are SD bank fired and they do not have it either.
My 1986 BII does not have it either and it is SD bank fired also.
No fuel system "knocking" noise heard on any of these trucks.

The TSB I have says nothing about engine sizes and gives part numbers.
See attached TSB 93-1-16.
