New to the MN Chapter

Hi there Everyone ,

Hows it going? MNBenny up here in St. Joseph, MN. Dead center of the state. I joined up here because I want to pursue getting a F-350 crewcab. I did test drive a 2005 this evening after work and all I can say is WOW! I laughed when i got out of truck because the truck is beefy! What blast though to drive.

I'm wanting to look at one because after the type of winter we had and seeing a passing F350 owner pull my brother out of the snow and I'm a believer of the 350's power.

I've thought about selling my jetta out right to get out from the loan.

thank you for the bandwith.

take care

MNBenny

Welcome Benny!

If you are considering a 6.0 powered truck, go read in the 6.0 board. They are a great truck, but you do have to be aware of what to look at.

HPO issues, Oil cooler, EGR and other things that can make your purchase much safer!

You'll love having an F350 though.

Join us in the BS thread too. Good times there.

Welcome Benny!
Don't worry .. everyone here is great at spending YOUR money. Just say the word and they're on it.

As Dave already said, just be aware of what you are getting into with the 6.0 trucks. They can be a GREAT truck, but if you're not careful, they could just as equally be a NIGHTMARE truck. The same could be said about many vehicles, but the 6.0 can be a very expensive nightmare.

Hope to see you in the BS thread!

Thank you JBotto,

Here's another question I have....Does anyone in Minnesota run the 6.8L V10 by chance? How has that engine done for people? The V10 better than the disels at all?

just curious?

I have, and one other guy has.

It really depends on what you plan on using it for. If you will tow a lot, diesel is best. If your just driving and might tow hear or there, then a V10 is ok. If you want a lot of power and some extra fun, diesel it is.

Welcome Ben. The group of guys here are great.

I had a 2002 F350 V10. It was a great truck. Very reliable and I towed a 10,000 lbs 5er all over with it including the mountains. It did pretty good. With a V10 you are looking at 10-12 mpg empty maybe 13 if real nice and 7-10 mpg towing. It is a veyr realible and cheap to maintain engine. Stay away from the 99 model V10's though. The 2005 V10 is a 3 valve and has more power puls you get the good torque shift trans with it.

I now have a 2007 F20 with a 6.0 DSL. Truck tows awesome. MPG empty is 15-16 mpg and towing is 9-12 mpg. My 6.0 is not nearly as realiable as my v10, and is alot more expensive to maintain.

Now that I have wrote a novel, all I will say is it is up to you. A v10 is a very good engine for a heavy truck. If you tow alot of heavy weight, 5,000 lbs or more and do it often than a DSL is great. If you drive it as a car and only tow some times than a V10 is great.

Hi Guys,

Hows it going? I haven't a truck yet. Still keep thinking about the F350 yet. Even I may not need a truck that big....I'm still wanting to lean towards a V10 because I'm not going to be pulling anything. It's just going to be a toy for me.

take care
