oil or fuel in water?

2001 F250 7.3L. Got something in water. Not real sure where to start truck runs good but with pressure cap on water bottle it blows out white sludge. Water does not really smell like fuel nor is it dirty like oil. Been told the oil cooler has been replaced not sure that is true though. Keeping open mind there. Can anyone help me identify the contminant for sure and maybe guide me toward the fix. Any and all help would be apprecijated. Been told oil cooler, injector cups, head gaskets. Whatever it is it seems to be adding pressure to coolant bottle

If it doesn't smell like fuel, the next thing I'd check is the oil dipstick. Check for coolant contamination. The oil cooler (o-rings/gaskets) may have failed - cross contaminating the oil & coolant.

Oil doesnt appear to have water in it. The truck has been sitting a few.days now so either fuel .or oil should be floating on water now. It should be more concentrated and hopefully ill get a better idea by smell and color. Will look again tonight

When you say it blows out white sludge, do you mean there is white residue on the cab/overflow tank?

no with truck running pressure builds in coolant tank. Enough so it blows around edges of pressure cap. It is a whitish creamy colored sludge. Its not a dried on residue. Can stand there and watch it spew out

If it looks like this it is probably fuel.

Oil is hard to mistake, it's black. I made the mistake when buying my latest 7.3 of thinking it was oil, no big deal, I can fix the oil cooler. Well it wasn't dark brown/black, it was milky "yellow" (white and green makes yellow) on top of the coolant in the bottle. That's fuel.

If you still can't decide, you can always pull a sample and send it to black stone (site sponsor, top of the page) for a coolant analysis. They can tell you what's up.

Send us a pic if you can, maybe we can help get you fixed up.

Well if it's confirmed fuel, you'll have to test the injector cups. Look up a thread called "stinky's stick up" and you'll find out all you need to know about that and more.

Here's some reading as well. http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/mm5/RE...eplacement.pdf

Edit: you can pressure test the coolant system prior to removing the cups, but the injectors will have to be out of the way.

To post pics you need to use a photo sharing sight such as photobucket, and paste the direct link into (or click the yellow box with mountains in it and paste the link there.
