Question SD HPOP on 95 7.3L - does timing cover need mod?

New to the forum, but it's already provided a wealth of information. I am in the middle of quite a few mods on a 95 Superduty. Doing an e-fuel conversion, 99.5 + turbo and intercooler with E99 spider. New up pipes with bellows, and regulated fuel return. Fuel bowl delete with mechanical pump delete.

Question to the experts, I want to upgrade to stage 1 or 2 injectors, so I'm wanting to upgrade the HPOP. Thinking of a SD 17*. I've read that my timing cover may need modification. If so, what needs done?

Thanks in advance!

You have to have the pump modified to work on the 94-95 trucks. If you send it to Joey at terminatorengineering, he can modify it to bigger than a stock 17* SD pump, it will be called a T500. Price isn't bad at all either. You can look it up on riffraff's website. Riffraff Diesel Performance Parts | Ford 7.3 diesel | 7.3 powerstroke | Ford Powerstroke | 7.3L Powerstroke Parts

Welcome to fte by the way!

The old vs new cover have different port locations and filter locations.
i just was curious.i am cause the late ones are practically free.and i didn't want to pay so much for e99 and have smaller intakes.

You can mod the front cover. There is a wright up on it somewhere.
But remember if you mess up on modding the cover you'll have to pull the engine to replace it.

Kinda pointless to mod the front cover in my opinion. If you go with stage 2 injectors, you should have something bigger than a stock 17 to supply them anyway. I guess if you stay with stage ones you could save some money by using a stock 17 and mod the cover, just don't screw up like Mike said.

That's the way I see it Darin.

To the OP you might as well just spend the 450 and let Joey at terminator engineering mod your pump.

Like I said if you mess up on the cover is gonna cost you more then that.

Here is the write up for the front cover modification. I saved this to my computer years ago before I knew it was possible to just modify the HPOP instead of the front cover.

http://www.nigh.org/HPOP_Mod/HPOP_reservoir_HowTo.htm

There's the info for you. Now it's up to you to decide if it's easier to just get a T500 or mod your cover and run a stock 17* pump that flows less oil. IMO, just get the T500.

He's gotta be talking about the L99-03 spyder and switching to 3" plenums to be able to use it, but what he's forgetting is that a turbo swap is needed to use the cheaper late model spyder because the outlet of the turbo is larger on the L99-03
