Post 1989 E-350 Motorhome Doghouse Help...

I have a 1989 e350 motorhome and am getting a "hot foot". I plan to install headers someday, but the budget won't allow that now...

The doghouse gasket is looking pretty bad and I was hoping someone here would know where to get a new one or an aftermarket one. The Ford dealer says that aftermarket is my best hope... I'll be adding some sound and heat shield to it soon and want to get a new gasket into it at the same time.

Also, I would like to customize the doghouse a bit (i.e. adding cup holders and pockets, etc...) and was hoping folks could post picks of their custom doghouses, or newer versions to give me some ideas...

Thanx,
Steve M

Looks like RockAuto lists a few for that application:

RockAuto Parts Catalog

I like Fel Pro gaskets, but I've heard good thing about Victor Reinz as well.

Tom,

Sorry if I was a bit unclear, I tend to ramble on abit...
I am looking for the gasket for the doghouse itself, not the engine...

Think a junkyard be your best bet, unless you create one.

junkyard is your best bet. what part of the world are you in - i have a spare doghouse with gasket here in seattle, which would be available for local pick-up, but i won't bother with shipping it. others here may just happen to have one 10 miles from you, who knows

I did some searching around yesterday and I found some who claim success with the generic weatherstrip sold at parts stores. I'd try that before getting a junkyard gasket that may not be much better than your current one.

The doghouse (engine cover) gasket (seal) is looking pretty bad and I was hoping someone here would know where to get a new one.

The lazy Ford dealer didn't bother to search for an obsolete original, says that aftermarket is my best hope.

I've been searching for obsolete parts for FTE members since 11/04/2006.

Been posting parts catalog pics for the past coupla weeks after Chris (ctubutis-1980/86 forum mod) taught me how...in person.

Added additional sources, parts catalog illustration and application to post 9.

Thx to both of y'all for the reps.

WOW! That is one cool post there! The parts guy here by me in South Orange County couldn't find even a listing that it was obsolete. I will be ordering it Monday probably from one of the dealers on your list.
Again that was awesome!

Thank you very much!

Now I just need some Ideas on how to customize the rest of the "engine cover"...

I plan to make the top cup holder out of oak to match the rest of the coach, and I will at least add a back-up camera screen that swivels on the front, but I'm not sure what else I could do... I want the cab area to be more like a cockpit than it is... Kinda like the class A MH's have done...

Anyway, please post some pics of your luxury, and custom doghouses!!

I've seen some nice cupholders in the wrecking yards in conversion vans. You could try walking through some dealers that sell conversions & get ideas that way.
