FE Heads
Can anyone help to identify what these actually are? I was told they were CJ heads, but I am pretty sure they are not.

Did a quick search and found:
1968 Mercury 390 4V, 2V high compression
Combustion chamber volume of 67.1 - 70.1
Link: How to Rebuild Big-Block Ford Engines - Steve Christ - Google Books
Im sure someone out there can be a little more exact than what I said though.

Where did Christ get some of his casting/part number info from? Hot Rod mag book published in 1970 that was rife with errors and omissions.
Hot Rod writer went to Beverly Hills Ford in 1969, asked Jack Boardman, the parts manager for hipo info from parts catalog that was not published in new Motorsports catalog that had just come out.
Jack said that Ron and Bill might give you the info...on their own time. The stipulation was...that before the book was published, Ron and I would proof read it.
But, we never heard another peep from the writer, book came out, part numbers, casting numbers ALL mixed up, applications wrong. Info taken directly from Motorsports catalog was also wrong.
It was a FIASCO back then...and it's a FIASCO today!

Casting number is C6AE-U, so they're 1966/67 Ford/Merc 390 heads. If from 1968, the casting number prefix would be C8AE.

I thought the numbers looked a little janky to be honest. The entire C6 thing would tell me that it is indeed a set of 66 heads. I also did find some info on GT heads as well, but wasnt sure.
