rebuilding the flathead.

Does anyone offer a complete rebuild kit for a flathead v8 out of a 47 ford pickup? All I seem to be able to find is all the pieces seperatly. also if any one know's. How reliable is the flathead as far as a daily driver. When I get done with my truck I want to use it not just take it out for parades. thanks for any help. Jim

Hi Jim,
Contact Red's Headers for your rebuild kit. redsheaders.com I think is their website. They are also great folks to deal with.

I put 20,000 miles on my 48 pickup last year including a trip from Montana to Ohio and back, and I'm on track to log about 15,000 this year. It's my daily driver since a frame-up rebuild was finished July '01 and it gets used as a truck.

Drive it, you'll love it!

I can't say I have driven my flathead 20,000 miles but it runs just fine. I haven't changed the piston rings...they need to be and probably bored a bit to boot..but my flathead runs and runs and runs. Kind of like a VW...jim
