Headrest or headliner mount?

I went with headliner mounted with my 06 and didn't like it.
In our '12 I went with individual headrest mounted units and love it.
Each side can watch their own movie with headphones or the internal speaker.

are the 08's integral headrest into seat, or removable? The problem I have seen is that most installers will not put headrest DVD players in trucks with the integral headrest like my 05. Did you do install yourself?

On my '13 Platinum, the DVD players are built into the front headrests. As was stated earlier, each can be showing a different movie. Mine were a dealer installed option.
I hope this helps.

I wanted to do this when I got my '11. The price was so outrageous that I ended up buying 2 refurb iPads with otterbox covers for the kids. I fire up the hotspot on my phone and the kids tether off of that, have netflix, appstore, etc while driving. Plus they get to use them (in moderation) in our other car, at home, etc... Just throwin' this out there as an idea.

FYI - I'm not a fan of Apple products but what my kids put these iPads through has impressed me.

similar to silverbullet, We just have two Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets for the kids and similarly I just turn on my phones hotspot and they are all set. Plus they can do things other than just watch DVD's. Just a thought.

Mine are removable. I had them done at the local stereo shop. It was about $800 but they actually put new headrests in. They color match them according to your vin number. They look identical to the OEM headrests.
Mine are younger, 4 of the 6 are under 10 so the dvd's work great for them. In fact if I'm going a mile down the road they want to put movies in.

Unfortunately the headrest ones don't work well in an 05 because the headrest is part of the seat.

I thought about picking up a couple tablets on clearance somewhere for them, but I run into two problems with that plan:
-my wife hates seeing stuff like that out in the truck, everything must be "put away."
-my cell has enough trouble getting data for GPS etc, much less trying to run multiple devices off hotspot. Add to that the fact it actually discharges running GPS through most rural interstates (as soon as it loses 4g) and you can see where this might not work out so well.

Still looking for roof mount options, or anyone with the temerity to cut their own seats.

This place in Kansas City looks like they can install dvd players in head rests that cannot be removed.

If I remember correctly, there is an older thread in the Excursion forum where the poster did the seat install himself, and posted pictures of each step showing exactly how he made the cuts, did the install, etc.

Thanks,
Ted
