Electric Fuel Pump/Regulator

I have searched through the forums, but I haven't found exactly what I needed, so here goes.

1951 Ford F-1.. 239 flathead V8 w/ 2 -barrel holley carb.
- recently converted to 12 volt
- currently under a complete re-wiring job

I am having fuel issues. Instead of purchasing a new fuel pump or even rebuilding the one I have, I am going the electric route. The only way I can start it is if I dump gas down the carb 3-4 times on separate occasions. It will then fire up no problem once its been "primed".

Anyways, I am looking at this fuel pump from Summit... Holley Red Electric Fuel Pumps 12-801-1 - SummitRacing.com

This pump is capable of 7PSI. I have read that 2 barrel carbs need a very low pressure or it will cause leakage and flooding. Will this regulator work without any issues with the motor/carb? Holley Fuel Pressure Regulators 12-804 - SummitRacing.com

Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Check the original manual to see what the fuel pressure is supposed to be. You're right...to high fuel pressure will cause the level of fuel in the float bowl to be too high & it can flood or just run rich.

Something like this is less money and is regulated to 4 psi: Mr. Gasket Micro Electronic Fuel Pumps 42S - SummitRacing.com

I have a Facet solid state electric....it appears to be very similar. The Facet units are not available at Summit, but you can find them online through other suppliers. With these pumps it is always a good idea to put a fuel filter before the pump.

I had a LOT of trouble with a Facet, admittedly about 20 yrs ago, but any time it got above 85 deg., it would quit pumping. Left me on the side of the road 30 miles outside Amarillo, which is like the end of the earth.

Holley 94's like 2.5 psi. I'm using this pump and regulator:

Buy Airtex Electric Fuel Pump E8016S at Advance Auto Parts

Holley 12-804 Fuel Pressure Regulator : Amazon.com : Automotive Holley 12-804 Fuel Pressure Regulator : Amazon.com : Automotive

It operates on the same principle as the Facet (a solenoid pump) so it thumps until you have pressure, but it isn't bad at all.

I'm not sure how you searched, but you won't get anything meaningful unless you do an Advanced Search, and limit results to this forum.
