so i always assumed my 92 4.9 was obd 1, the sticker was gone saying if it was obd 1 or not, well digging around and lifting the battery out to replace i found a sticker that said it was not obd 1 but in fact eccv-II or eecv-II something like that (its early) so what is the difference between obd 1 and this eecv-II or what not, is it better, worse, the same, does it have larger, smaller or similar power handling capabilities, thanks all
EECV-IV is what you would have, and that is OBD-1. OBD-2 is characterized by the ALDL connector under the right side of the drivers dash on these trucks.
OBD-2 did not come out until '95 on 302 and 351 equiped trucks. '96 460's and '95-up 300's I6 may have had it also, not sure though.
Is your weight rating above 8900lbs? If so, that is probably why you have OBDI. I was having this discussion the other day when someone was asking about compatible year instrument clusters.
Trucks over 8500lb GVWR were exempted from the mandated OBD-2 change over so it didn't appear in HD gasoline trucks until the all new SuperDuty was introduced in 1998.
