hello, i have a 76 f-100 4x4 with a 360 engine and 4 speed manual transmission. i wish i knew what to call this, but next to the passenger side radius arm there should be a plastic box for part of the emissions, i believe. but, i have a second f-100 4x4 and that is a rounded cylinder shape, but still is plastic. i honestly believe that on the second truck, this is from a newer model. because all the 70's ford's i've seen it's been a box. i'm sorry i do not have any photos to post of the part. but i will try to get one up soon. thank you for your time
Evaporative (charcoal ) canister... it absorbs gasoline fumes and its outlet tube and ducting connects to the air cleaner. The fumes are evacuated by engine vacuum and introduced into the combustion cycle... for that clean, refreshing smell.
that's what i thought it was.. but may i ask you, was there two different types? pretty much both trucks are the same, except one has the gas tank behind the seat. would it be possible to also see a photo
I am not sure, unless you are doing a 100 point restoration, that they shape of the canister matters. I grabbed one off of a truck in the junkyard and put it in. I don't remember what truck it came off of. May have even been a Chevy.
Dunno if there were two versions or not... this whacko state of California mandates all sorts of crazy crap.. Mine is round, mounted under the passenger side floor pan, and protected by a sheetmetal piece.
