My 1987 F-150's 2wd C6 is well past due to be serviced. I plan on draining the pan and torque converter, installing a new filter, installing a new pan gasket, and replacing the bad vacuum modulator. Could somebody give me a solid number of quarts of transmission fluid to buy to do this service and possibly recommend a brand? I plan on using Dexron III/Mercon fluid, but will consider other options if there is any available. Thanks for any response in advance.

 

that is the proper fluid. if memory serves correct, you will need around 12 quarts.

once you have the pan on, fill the trans till the dipstick reads full. then start the engine and with the trans in park top it off.
