Exclamation Edelbrock Streetmaster 400

I have an Edelbrock Street Master 400 intake manifold, and I am faced with having to get it smog legal. There is an EGR port on the manifold behind the carb mount. It wont accept my stock EGR valve. It does have the port for the smog pump, so that is ok....up until now, I have just screwed pipe plugs into the egr ports, and it ran fine, but now I need to get an egr on it. Does anyone have this intake or know anything about it? Specifically what part number egr will fit it?

Thanks

How do you plan to get around the fact that it's a 4V carb?

Rmk,

Try calling Edlebrock's tech support line. They're usually pretty good about giving tech answers.

Otherwise, if you can find a local parts house with a variety of Ford EGR valves in stock and a cooperative guy at the counter, bring in your manifold and try different units until you find one that fits.

Bill,

Of course, you can use a 2V carb with an adapter if necessary, but many locales have emissions testing that is not as rigorous as that in California.

For example, even in the stricter (enhanced testing) areas in Colorado, 4V carbs on M-blocks will pass visual inspection, and even engine swaps (e.g., 460) will pass as long as basic rules are followed (engine year vs. chassis year, weight-class certification, emissions control equipment, etc.). Basically, as long as all of the OEM-spec emissions equipment is in place and appears to function, and as long as the vehicle meets the applicable exhaust gas measurement standard, it will pass.

I guess I assumed since he needed to get it back to 'smog legal' status that he had rather rigorous standards. I know that in Washington I could put whatever engine/performance combo I wanted to in the vehicle as long as it passes the 'sniffer' I'm good to go. My truck passed 3 times without the cats even tho' it came with them from the factory.

Mine passed with a 4V carb, no smog pump, and the egr blocked off.

If its in your 78 its a classic and should not even be smog tested. Just brakes, lights, and what not, and you get a sticker. Thats how it is for me this year. 78 means its now 25 years old.

RancheroMK,
I can't give you the part #'s but the EGR valve on my 79 F-150, bolted right up to my Streetmaster 400. As far as the 25 year rule goes it's not everywhere yet. AZ still tests back to 1967, we all need to push for 25 years and older, no more smog testing, everywhere. There is no reason to test vehicles that old, they don't get driven enough to make a difference in air quality.
