The F450s with the parking brake on the back of the trans use a 4x4 case... yes it will work.

Yes, it will work with your transfer case... It will also, I believe, have the wide range gear ratio like the 460 ZF. That is the transmission I ~actually wanted to find... but will be adapting a 460 ZF since that is what I could find. Wide ZF is great if you have 4.10's, not so much if you have 3.55's, you might want to think twice... or come trade me for one of my close ratio ZF's LOL! Read this:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rm-i-hope.html

Edit: clean off the aluminum tag on the drivers side. It gives the gear ratio. If it says 5.72-0.76 it is the wide ratio, 4.14-0.77 is the close ratio gear set.

Well I got it.It is the 0.77 ratio, but I got 4:10 so its good.Anybody need a pto or zf ebrake? The only thing is after I go the pto off I noticed a couple of teeth on the primary drive gear are broken but not completely. It was probably from premature engaging of the pto.I think I can have them built back up with welding method or fix it with jb weld,Or I can take my chances and leave it alone. The fluid was not burnedt smelling and there were no metal shavings or fragments inside the trans. Also there are no worn gears.Just a couple of chipped gears on the main gear,Like I said, probably from carelessly engaging the pto.I also got a brand new clutch kit still in the box complete with directions and warranty papers.a new water pump, cross member, hydraulics,he threw in the old dual DMF just for sh##ts and giggles.I paid 500$ for everything.

Any Thoughts on the 2 broken teeth on I believe is the main drive gear in the zf.It was caused by the pto which I gladly removed.I have a pic but don't know how to paste it.

And I really don't have the money for a rebuild,Had to borrow the funds to get this rare gem and the hen was nun too pleased if u get my drift. Some words of comfort or an idea for a cheap inexpensive fix would be a gift from god.If u know anything about transes,Its the big gear on the right lower side of the unit(looking from the rear).the pto plate is rite there. Its easily accessable from the plate. The gear only turns, nothing is shifted into it.The 2 teeth are about 8 apart.Any experience with anyone driving with known broken teeth.

I believe that is to drive the pto only, so you can run it with no wories.

It IS the gear that the pto engages to, so i hope you are right bashby. Thanks.

The first time I had my ZF apart, it had a broken gear tooth, can't remember exactly where, but there didn't seem to be any indication while driving it then, or now so I wouldn't worry.

I that gear you are talking about is the one that spins the countershaft off of the input shaft. So it is spinning in everything but I think 4th (direct). Well always spinning, but loaded in all except 4th.

Also, the ZF5 I got was out of a F450 with the parking brake and a PTO. The original data was removed, but the ZF part number on the rebuilt tag corresponds to 4.14-0.77 for the close ratio.... Also the parts file is unclear about the earlier trucks, but shows a part number in each gear range for the 1994-95 Superduty's (Powerstrokes). Show I wouldn't say anything clear cut about F-450/Superduty's having a set gear range. Except that all every gas engine shows to have the wide ratio.

Since that picture is a little hard to understand, here's a break down by line.
Top line - quill, seals, bearing and input shaft
2nd - exploded view of gears on front part of main-shaft (output shaft)
3rd - main-shaft and exploded view of gears on rear part
4th - exploded view of counter-shaft (which is funny as the service manual says its replaced only as a unit)
5th - parts in the bearing/synchro kit, main-shaft assembly

I think the gear you're talking about is #9 in the picture.

Thanks everyone for all the help thus far.Besides the 2 broken teeth everything looks good. There is a very small amount of play in the input shaft. not in and out, up and down, It stiffens up when in gear,is this normal. Also any maintenance recommendations before I start the installation process. Are there seals or bearings to replace, etc? Thanks again everyone,
