I took the skid plates off and scrapped them. Just adds weight, and holds dirt. If you are scraping the rear tank on something the bumper will be rubbing

The f26 tank comes with all the stuff to convert your stock fuel pickup to the new tank. It's not hard and only requires a hacksaw. It's all up to you, but the bronco pickup is getting hard to find. Rockauto has a complete unit for $300 I just see today. If I was replacing my rear tank I'd jump on it, but until it rusts out, or pump goes bad, I'm staying stock. Oh well.

Ill probably just get the f26 tank then. my 89 isn't going to be a daily or road trip vehicle at all. So I don't see the need for myself to keep both tanks. The 89 is a long bed so that has 37 gallons combined iirc?

Took my first trip today with the new tank. It was nice driving straight to where I was going, non-stop

Sold. Although I have no idea when I'll be in your neck of the woods. I was thinking about going to Carlisle this year for the Ford weekend. I haven't been since 09.

My front tank is rusted to no return and I've been trying to find a replacement on eBay, but when I message people about them I keep getting the same reaponse.. It's a gasoline tank and won't work. What's the difference? I installed the bigger rear gasoline tank in my 95 diesel and it seems to work just fine....

As far as I can tell, the tanks are the same. Sending units will be different of course. On Rock Auto, the 19 gallon tank, Spectra F6C, is 84 bucks. The 16 gallon tank, Spectra F14C, is 85 bucks.

My stock rear tank is held up by a skid plate like pictured a few posts up. It does not have straps as far as i can tell. Do I reuse the skid and space it down with longer bolts? I was thinking that you folks were spacing down straps on the larger tanks.

As luck would have it. I found that my front tank check valve is bad. I was running the rear tank to empty it in anticipation of installing the Bronco tank back there and saw fuel had leaked out of the front filler. So, now I need to drop the front tank too. It must have just started.

I'm currently installing the F26D tank, I got the tank in and noticed that there is a vent support in the filler neck and I cant get my filler neck on. Now did your old tank have the vent support and if not, how did you get it out? The F26E tank doesn't have the vent support.

I took the vent support out. From what I remember it came out easily with a pair of pliers. It's only tack welded in place.

I did tried pulling it out but I guess I need to get a little more wild with it. I did find out my tabs on my fuel pump assembly isn't correct. I had to get the grinder out and cut out slots to make it work. other than that it was pretty simple. I still have to get the fuel pump installed. I just ran out of time to finish it this weekend.

Old fuel tank tabs for fuel pump

new fuel tank tabs

fuel tank installed
