I think my clutch is finally gone - got about an inch of pedal before it engages. Going to try adjusting the linkage from the slave cylinder to get a little more, but I think it's about gone. Anyone have any helpful tips (pics would be great!) for changing out the clutch? Also found that there is a 10", 11", or 12" available; which should I go with? It seems from a little research that the 11" is probably what I currently have, but would the 12" be an upgrade? Thanks!!

 

I'll be changing mine soon as its delvered from rock auto. Never done it so I'll be watchin this oe.

 

I think you have to go back with whats in it, best way is to pull yours, measure it, then order the same setup. And when picking up the new one, take yours along to compaire.

 

I know that the 10" and 11" have different flywheel and pressure plate sizes so I am sure that the 12" does as well. A t98 should have had the 11" from the factory. Unless you are upgrading the flywheel too, better stick with the 11".

Edit: For all I can tell the 12" only came in f-350 - f-950's with 302 and up v-8's. the 262 came with up to an 11.5". I don't even see a 272 or 292 with the 12" clutch.

 

I would take the inspection panel off of the bottom of the bell housing to inspect the clutch before ordering any parts though! could save a few dollars going in the wrong direction.

 

Good idea, thanks!! Went ahead & replaced the slave cylinder & adjusted the linkage yesterday, but ran out of daylight before I could enlist some help to get it bled. Maybe I'll get lucky & that'll fix it. Have to wait a couple days for the weather to improve to find out, though.

 

New slave cylinder didn't help, so I went ahead & tore into it. Got the starter out & look at this *****: HUGE rats nest in my bellhousing!

Have to say that removable panel over trans is handy as hell!! 4 bolts hold the trans on the bellhousing, & once they're out, trans just slides right out.

 

Clutch & flywheel actually look alright, but I'm gonna take it all apart to clean it up real good. If I post a couple pics of the clutch, can anyone tell me if it still looks good? The throwout bearing came out with the trans, & it seems to be worn out.

 

Anytime Ive ever done a clutch and pressure plate change out I replace the throw out bearing. You hate to put it all back together and then start having problems there. Might as well replace it while its apart.

 

This times a bazillion. You're there, get a clutch kit and be done with it for another 100K miles (5 miles if you ride the clutch). If it were me, and I'd already done the slave, I'd get a rebuild kit for the master or even replace it if needed. The master isn't subject to things like water, salt spray ( and rats!). So it may be OK. but there's the piece of mind thang that comes into play

 

I also had a rats nest in mine as well. I have the inline 6 so my clutch is a 10" I only figured it out after the 11" didnt fit and had to sentit back.

 

Interesting. The T98 I got came with a 223 out of an F350(?) and it had an 11". It too was filled with rodent bedding. I did replace do a clutch kit because I overhauled the engine and am doing the trans, just cuz it's out and I ain't never overhauled a trans.
Makes me wonder if I'm likely to run into difficulties getting the right clutch if I get a T5
