I have located a new (re-manufactured) carb. I'll try it and see how it behaves. If it works, I'll have my rebuilt one re-done under warranty and sell one of them. At this point it looks like a bad accelerator pump in the carb. Let's see how it goes.

Is it fixed?

Hi, I am a new owner of a '51 F1 w/ 226 fh6 that is showing the same or very similar problem. Idle is strong, but it intermittently craps out on acceleration from stop or at low speed. So I'm wondering if the new carb did the trick?

Thanks.

The carb was rebuilt, but it appears the accelerator pump isnt right. I bought a new carb, and will install it soon. That should rule out the accelerator pump if it works. If not, I think I might have a sticky valve.

Well, tried the new carb with not much improvement, but the guys at Fox Valley adjusted the timing, and that seem to help a lot. They tell me the distributor is not advancing. They want to rebuild it, but I was thinking of putting a Pertronix distributor instead. Any thoughts from you guys on this option?

Pertronix won't help the advance mechanism work. AFAIK, Pertronix doesn't make a distributor, just a replacement for the points.

They do make a distributor. The part number is D7134600. The alternative to rebuild my current one including the diaphragm.

That's for a SBF (289 - 302). I didn't realize they were making those, I wonder if it's a re-labeled MSD.

This is the one you want: http://www.msdignition.com/Products/...stributor.aspx

No, it is there own stand alone dist. I just installed last friday in a friends 302 and it solved his problems because like you, his dist was gunked up and sticking. Nice looking piece and seems to work perfectly. Don't waste you time or money rebuilding yours, he got his on amazon.

Well I'm back after having my truck in storage for the long winter. I just took it out a couple of weeks ago, and took it to a mechanic I found that works on old cars. My carb popping is finally resolved. It was a mis-match of the distributor and coil that were on. The old gal is now purring and running sweet....
