So it should be an easy fix - pry the old one out, clean the hole, and put a new one in. Would you use Copper Coat or some such on the new plug?

A sheet metal screw in a slide hammer is usually my method.
I don't see why not, to use some high temp sealant.

If the hole is clean the plug will fit tight.
Carbon will build up on the inside anyhow.

If he can get a slide hammer in there. But at least a pair of vise grips on the screw might do it.

If you're going to wrench it out like a bad tooth use a big (12-14) screw.

Ok guys. I guess this is a " Thermoactor Plug ". Typical freez plug but its .666 in size. I was able to pick one up at Napa. I took a screw driver and a hammer and hammered the screw driver in a corner just enough to pry on it. I did it while the truck was hot and gave it a quick spray of PB Blaster, and it popped right out. The plug from Napa wont be in until tomorrow so ill let you guys know how it went. Just to give you guys the location of it, it's right above the alternator bracket mount.

Little update on the Ugly Duckling gentleman. Picked up the .666 freeze plug from Napa on the way home from work today. After I got home, I took a small wire brush and cleaned the hole out. After that I started the truck up for about half a minute to let the exhaust blow all the debris out. Then I took mineral spirits and cleaned the hole out as well as the new plug. I used red LockTite on the outer perimeter of the plug before installing it.
I couldn't be happier with how quiet these big blocks are. It's unbelievable to think if a big block can be that smooth and quiet, what the heck is with the smaller motors

They are working harder to try and get the job done.
A mule may have a hard time pulling the plow, but an Ox just keeps moving and makes it look easy.

Red Loctite won't hold up to exhaust gas temperatures.
But carbon will seal it up tight from inside.

Well gentleman.......................... The Ugly Duckling is gone as of today. My second cousin came in from P.A today and had to have it. He gave me an offer I couldn't refuse and could really use a truck with those particular options. I hated seeing it go, but I know it's going to a good home and at least it's staying in the family. I still have an 05 XLT and shopping for a 13 as we speak so I will still be on the forum. I must say though, no other truck has the personality that the 1980-86 bullnose has.

At least it went to a good home - in the family. But you, personally, aren't leaving are you?

I just hope he can get it through PA emissions with everything removed.

Heck no, I'm not going anywhere! The wife won't let me.
Somehow, some way, he's not worried about the emissions.

Hey, I just saw your post on the 460 emissions junk. I'm putting a rebuilt 460 in a 96 F250, to use as a hauler/ mule. I'm about to put the 'plumbing' back on- I'm in Wyoming, NO emissions checks, so I'd like to leave some of the stuff off. I want the stock fuel injection (don't want to spend the dinero for mods), and I'd like it to run decent. I am just getting back into wrenching on my vehicles, any suggestions?
