96 F-150 E4OD transmission temperature sensor

Hi, I am trying to locate the transmission fluid temperature sensor in my 96 F-150 E4OD. I dropped the pan but have not been able to locate the sensor. My service manual says it is on the solenoid body. Can anyone advise me on finding the sensor and replacing it. Thanks a lot.

Yes it is mounted on the solenoid pack.
You would have to drop the solenoid pack out to see it.

Here is a photo of the TOT, note yours will not have the diodes that is beyond the TOT.

Looks like this is soldered to a circuit board and wouldn't be something you could buy individually, without buying the complete solenoid assembly. Ford sold me part # F1DZ-7H141-A which is a plastic block about 1.5" long. It is made to plug into a 2 terminal electrical connector and has a push tab that secures the block into a mounting hole. I bought it before I dropped the pan so I would know what I was looking for. They said it was correct for my vin #, but my service manual shows a picture very similiar to the one you posted. Thanks for you help! I'll talk to Ford tomorrow.

Sounds like they sold you the wrong part.
Why do you want to change the TOT anyway?
I do not think I have heard of one going bad.
Yes if there is something wrong on the board you replace the whole solenoid pack.
Most of the time it is one of the solenoids is the reason for changing the board.

The reason for changing the sensor was because the computer is logging code P0713, suggesting an open circuit. I was already planning on dropping the pan and replacing the filter / fluid, so when Ford had the temperature sensor for $18, I thought it would be a good idea to replace it at the same time. This code is causing the overdrive "off" light to flash. I had also planned on checking the electrical connector while I was there. Thanks a lot guys for the info!

The above diagrams are wrong for your truck. Here is a diagram of your plug.

oh yes.thank you.actually that test harness pic is only good for '95+ not earlier now that i look at it.
that test harness pic and your pic will help him figure it out.
really your pic and one of those e40d repair plugs, and some spare wire is all he needs to build a test harness.
wires might be just long enough to mark and label right there, but id still extend them to make them easy to reach and test.

..........
those with pre '95 e40d's use the pic above with 8 pins and this repair plug to build your test harness;
E4OD Solenoid Harness Repair Kit - For Solenoid 89 - 94

always assume just a dirty connector whenever you get codes related to the tot and solenoids though.
use electrical cleaner exactly (iv had bad luck with brake cleaner.just doesn't do it like you would think it could) on both sides.spray down in the solenoid plug and let set for 10 mins.then you must soak it up to dry it.of course spray the plug real good as well.
iv run into this a few times now.i usually get 2-3 tot/solenoid codes.this always jumps my mind to just a dirty plug.i used rtv and smothered the crap out of the plug on the outside now lol.i don't recommend that.it's going to be tricky to ever get it undone, but with a plow truck,it was getting old.i had to seal it best i could.

I think you mean for diagrams you posted above is only for 1994 and older, not newer.
1995 and up have the diagram that I posted.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...1&d=1366596569

then the older 89-94 connector right with it.haha.you fixed it.they can figure it out now.use 8 pin pics for pre-95 and use 12 pin pics for '95+.
