installing a used motor, What should I change on it before installing?
Ive got an 02 f350 with the 6.8. Motor is dying so I picked up a used one out of a wrecked excursion. According to the previous owner, the motor has about 120k on it. I thought Id see what opinions were on what if anything should be replaced while the engine is out and on the stand rather than in the truck. I will be doing exhaust studs, plugs, oil change of course. Other than that, is there anything I should consider? Also, on the exhaust studs, should i just use standard dorman stuff or go with the ford stainless steel ones? Are there problems with dissimilar metals with the stainless ones? Thanks for any advice.

It just depends on how indepth you want to go with your check, i'd say check all the gaskets at your own discretion. Since i'm canadian, i'm in kilometers and my trucks at 330,000km right now (205,000miles) roughly. The things that have went bad for me are: IAC, EGR, very small head gasket leak, about 9/20 exhaust studs rusted out so far (fixing when money allows). You might want to just do all the vacuum lines while you can, clean everything up and hopefully the engine has no internal wear/tear from the previous owner. Unless you feel like doing a rebuild, where i'm no help there. Goodluck!
