02 F250 to 05 F250 is it worth it?

Howdy guys me and my dad are kinda looking at this 05 F250 V10 Crew cab Lariat with a camper shell. I haven't seen the truck in person but from the pics it looks extremely clean. One thing we are thinking is trading our 02 F250 V10 crew cab lariat that is heavily modified. The 05 is bone stock power wise where as our 02 has close to $3k invested in the performance margain. We owe on our 02 as we are still paying payments on it and we are only being offered $7k (which is rock bottom retail for trade in). so with pay off we figured $3K or so as our down payment. Our 02 is clean but has dents here and there. Also the 05 is $3k overpriced. is the 05 worth the hassle of trading our heavily modified 02 for. I mean both are lariat V10 crew cab shortbeds but one is newer with the 3valve 5R100.

I would if they would come down on the price of the 05. The 05+ trucks got many upgrades including a better transmission, bigger brakes and a coil spring front suspension that makes a huge difference. The 05+ also got the 3V motors which will also bring up the hp and tq some.

Well we are going through the approval process right now and I am not worried about the heavy mods on our 02 as most I can get and put on the 05. The price will be going lower also we are trying our hardest to get more then just 7 for our 02. I think it should be closer to $10K really which I am trying at.

Honestly I'd say no. If you were really pushing the V10 hard enough to be disappointed in its power you'd be looking for a diesel and not just one extra valve. The transmission upgrade is nice but not a couple grand nice, the coils are nice but not a couple grand nice either. I think the biggest hang up is the low trade in price; you have a truck, it works, why up the debt load for incremental improvements? If you were going to something more different, like a LB, dually, or diesel because your old truck was causing you problems, sure go for it. But I don't think you'd see a large enough difference to justify the cost.

But hey, if y'all want it go for it. Nothing wrong with newer if you're fine with the costs.

we don't really need a monster towing rig anymore all we need is something that can pull when needed.

ken he lives in northern arizona, its a whole different animal then living in the desert in southern arizona. Summer temps are between 20 and 30 degrees cooler where he lives.
texastech I agree with what you are saying however its 12 to 14k depending on the final price. At the same time how many miles does he have on the truck he currently has the one he is looking at is just under 80k. This is something to consider also.

Redneckford the only thing I dont like is the gear ratio in the axles. 3.73 i think 4.10 or 4.30 woud be a better option.

It might be 4.10 that dealership barely ever marks anything right. Our 02 has 137K miles not much really. Also I really like black.

wouldn't the spark plugs coming up at 90k, The power might be more but all around not much of an upgrade. I would save the money and put it somewhere else.

Good point - unless he can prove the plugs have been done that could be a sticking point. If you're pretty handy they're not horrible to change if you get the Lisle tool, but it would be a headache. I'm w/ Tech though, don't see much benefit for the price difference. Have to get the numbers closer.

But isn't the 02 the one that gets like 20mpg? I would never trade that truck off!

The spark plug issue is minor. Use it to negotiate a lower price.
