1997 Ford F53 Fuel level

I have a 1997 F53 that's under a Pace Arrow Motorhome
The Fuel level (Gas) reads empty all the time.
I'd like to find out how to test out the Fuel Gauge and or sensor ...before I drop the 75 gal tank and pull the fuel sensor....... or pull the inst cluster.
I'm assuming that there's some place between the tank and gauge to break into the signal and do a resistance check on the sensor.

Any help would be appreciated

Steve

Well without being able to reach the tank wires it hard to check. I never which way it goes but when the wire is off the gauge will go E or F can't remember if it is the sending unit. When there is power to it the gauge goes the opposite direction.
But just a guess it is the pump assembly.

The fuel tank sending unit consists of a variable screened resistor made up of a ceramic substrate. It is controlled by the action of an attached float in the fuel tank. When the fuel level is low, resistance in the fuel tank sending unit is low. When the fuel level is high, the resistance in the fuel tank sending unit is high. As the float moves from empty to full, the resistance will gradually and continuously increase.

Just remember, high resistance (158 +- 4 ohms) high fuel level. Low resistance (16.3 +- 2 ohms) low fuel level.
Just unplug C-218 and see if the needle pegs out above full.
If so you know you have a problem in the tank.
If it does not peg out above full you may have a bad anti-slosh module.

Note disregard the red markings in the image, they were for another post.

Wire #29, Yellow with a white stripe is from the fuel gauge to the fuel sender. Pin #12 @ C218.
