I have a 02 with a rod knocking and 96 engain that floated the valves, Can I use the 96 to fix the 02?

Second what is a 7.3 block and crank worth?

 

You can get a set of rods for reasonable. I would recommend getting new forged rods. And there is only a difference in the front covers.. but for the life of me I cannot remember what specifically that it.

I believe I sold a sleeved block/crank/cam that was ready for a hone for $500.

 

The blocks and crankshafts are different between those years.

No biggie. It looks like a minor difference. I suppose the '96 crank will work in a newer block but the newer crank may not fit the older block. So, I guess if you keep the block and crank together then the OP will be golden.

The lifter guide style is different as well. It says the newer style crankshafts are stronger so I suppose they would be more desired.

 

I remember reading something about head gasket changes through years as well. I will try and find that page...


Here it is. The newer style F-250/450 gaskets will fit the older blocks so that works out. There is a thinner F-650/750 gasket that creates a higher compression ratio. This is a good way to identify a 650/750 engine at a salvage yard since the corner of the gasket will be visible (also there should be a fuel pump in the valley of the engine).

 

I've wondered what drove the fuel pump on the pre 99 power strokes, was it a lobe on the cam shaft? I had a 95 and remember the fuel pump being in the valley. If so the cam would be different.

 

Correct. It has a cam lobe and the valve timing is different on the F-650/750 trucks.

Thanks, If the crank will bolt up to flexplate it still might work. How is the fuel pump hole in the vally pluged on the newer trucks.
