I am looking around for you too and have seen a few taken off of 93 IDI's

Does it have to be a manual trans from a diesel to work? I saw a ZF 5 spd advertised that it came off of a 460, but the guy mentioned "will only fit 460"

Also do you need to have transfer case and all? I recall that a diff PCM or ECM is needed?

The 93 trans setup he has listed as barter... usually means they are willing to go cheap. lol
Thanks Alex. Gas ZF's won't work. PCM from manual is reccomended. IIRC 7.3 IDI ZF's will work.

If the filter has enough junk in it to affect the trans, you need a rebuild. The only time a filter will plug is when the trans has died. A flush and fill wouldn't clean out the filter, anyway. People talk about backflushing, but it is impossible to backflush a transmission. It can't be done.

He is right. It will only fit a 460.

Any 7.3l trans will work. Not sure on the 6.9

Has to be from a 7.3l

If its a 4x4 trans you'll have to have a T case

You will need a PCM for a 5speed

T Cases are interchangeable from what I've read. Also read a few cases where guys used their auto PCM after the swap. Supposedly it just creates a romp on start up.

I'll be attempting this with my swap (hopefully this weekend) and then be able to verify.

IIRC the romp on startup can be eliminated by leaving the Auto harness in place and leaving the TRS on the truck, in either the P or N positions. It isn't a perfect solution, but it will work.

As for the ZF fitment, ANY ZF5 from a diesel (PSD, 7.3 IDI, 6.8 IDI) will work. It just can't be a transmission from a gas truck as they use a different bell housing bolt pattern.

I plan on just having it fixed when I get a chip down the road here.

A 4x4 trans is necessary, right Nate?

The tailshaft on the 4x2 transmission is different, however (supposedly) the F-Super Duty (or at least some of them) were offered with a tailshaft-mounted emergency brake. If you find one of those they are the same as the 4x4 transmission (or so I am told).

Haha. Depends on what it's worth to you. Right now I have to get something out of it because I've gone into debt getting all the swap parts together .

I'm hoping it has a nice TC when I pull it. Supposedly it was rebuilt about 40k ago.

Well Nate and Alex have both sent me promising leads. Alex's is in Illinois though. Nate sent me an add this morning for a SD OBS for a reasonable price if it runs and shifts. My brother needs a motor for his SD, so I might be able to swing a good deal. I have to break this all to the wife tonight, but a donor truck would obviously be the best route to go if she doesn't blow a gasket over the price.

Start by telling her that a solid rebuild on an E4OD costs about $4k and a cheap (read -- TEMPORARY) rebuild costs $2k or more. Then tell her that for the purchase price of that truck plus the cost of a SMF and Clutch you can do it once and be done completely.

I've been trying to get a hold of my buddy Todd. I've left him two messages. Maybe he'll call me back this evening.
