dumb question about Rancho XL9000 Shocks
Ok, I have a dumb question...
I just installed the Rancho XL9000 shocks on my 2011 F250 Super Duty. On the adjustment dial at the bottom of the shock, I can't tell what the setting is. Is fully clock-wise or counter-close wise set to 1? No directions and no indicator on the shock or dial.
Thanks,
Chris

True - 1 (the softest ) was to the left and 9 (ths stiffest) was to the right on my Excursions 9000's.
I found 2 was comfy for me, but I rarely towed....
(and I would run the psi up to max on my tires so the shocks would soften the stiff tire ride, but the stiff tire ride gave me the best mpg = best of both worlds !)
but, hey, that's why it's adjustable - you can find how YOU and YOUR truck like it

I recently installed 9000XL's on my truck. The dial turned fully counter-clockwise is 1, the softest setting.
Regarding the best settings for them, that will be personal preference of course. I've tried all the suggestions on this forum, but keep coming back to a setting of 5 all the way around. I literally live on a "test track"; 1.5 miles of washboard dirt road that leads to a very bumpy 2-lane asphalt with lots of curves. 5 seems to provide a good compromise between ride comfort and stability. The back end doesn't try to come around to the front of me at 40 MPH on the washboard roads, the truck tracks true and wheels remain in contact with road on the bumpy curves. Ride quality is very good too. With the stock shocks, every large bump ended with a 'crash' that I swear was trying to destroy the truck.
Of course your settings will probably be different if you haul heavy loads or pull a trailer. But with a near empty truck I believe the settings do more to control the unsprung weight. I could be wrong, but it's the best explanation for the same settings front and rear working best for me.

I finally got time to change the settings and then go for test drives.
First I put the setting on 1 on all four shocks. On 1 this trucks floats down the road like a 1970's Cadillac!! LOL!
Seriously, I love the way the truck rides now. Still dialing in the exact setting I like but the swap over to the XL9000's was a great choice.
Thanks everyone for the advice!
