Clanking & Humming Noise 94 F150
1994 F-150 5.0 V8 4wd
Following problems have me stumped
Clank Noise From Drive to Reverse
and when i was pressing my gas to keep my speed at 40mph i heard the clanking noise again also sometimes from stop and pushing the gas i hear it as well.
i tried checking the U-joints put it in neutral and shook the shaft the Yokes move but really cant see any play in the joints themselves other then rust around the caps.
There is also a humming noise, whenever i push the gas it kind of sounds like oversized tire noise but its not, as soon as touch the gas it hums, even when i just rest my foot on it. Soon as i let it go it stops.
could both of these becoming from worn u-joints or somthing else
I'd appreciate any info on what it may be and what to check thanks in advance

I just bought my spider gears from ford($55) mine was doing roughly the same shaft was tight, but put up in the air there was slop rolling tires same R to D was getting to the point of rear end would hook trac loc style no matter what. Same with highway speed anything past 68mph back of the truck would shake. Swap spider gears R to D nice and tight, ran up to 70-80 and no more shake.
Put it up on jackstands roll one tire check see if there is excessive slop, pull the cover if your spider gears are shiny pitted ect. Might be time to change them.
GM guys know all about this 88-95 you were lucky to get 80k out of a set seen many go boom too. Ford well goes without saying engineered them to last mine had 183k when I finally changed them.

The humming is the out of balance condition cause by the bad u-joints.
You need to drop that driveshaft before it drops itself and causes a bigger problem than you have now.
