New To Me
I bought an 04 Explorer all wheel drive today.
Maybe I should have studied more closely before buying, but what is the sport track? It is also a 4 door.
Does anyone know if this AWD is anything like the old Quadratrack that Jeep put out in the 70,s? I had a 78 wagoneer and it would go most anywhere with street tires.

Is yours a V8 with the AWD on all the time?
Or do you have a switch with "AUTO/4HI/4LO"?
"Sport Trac" is the Explorer based 4 door pickup. Nothing to do with the AWD/4WD.
"ControlTrac" is the automatic 4wd system used on Exploders and Rangers. Not sure if they used it on other models. That's the "AUTO/4HI/4LO" switch model.

In "Auto" you are in rear wheel drive until you have a wheel slip. It then engages the fronts. You can feel it engage, although you have to be paying attention to feel it. I've had mine engage in corners and on ice. No problems, and it kept things straight. Issues include the hubs iirc, and the shift motors. Shift it in and out and run it a bit once in a while to keep things working. (On dirt or grass, don't run 4x4 hi or lo on pavement)
