Canister Purge Valve?

Canister Purge Valve?
I was recently fixing up my 1991 Ford Bronco and I believe I found a problem. The part where my Canister Purge Valve connected to the throttle body was clogged with caulk. Is this a big deal? Also, one of the side is broken so I can't connect any vacuum tube to it. Does this mean I should go ahead and buy a new one? Or will it be okay?

The purge valve allows the gasoline fumes in the canister to be drawn back into the combustion cycle as a part of the natural vacuum draw of the engine. It won't necessarily hurt anything to not have it if it is not affecting performance but it does leave the canister as a more volatile object under the hood what with gasoline fumes being stored in it and left to leak out into the air or condense and soak the charcoal inside.

It doesn't really seem to be affecting performance, but I was wondering if it had anything to do with this. Sometimes, when I push down the accelerator, it's like the throttle won't read it, and my truck will stay in idle. So I have to rev the engine to get the RPM to increase again, this has happened momentarily since I bought the truck a couple months ago. So do you think the purge valve could be affecting this at all?

Hey Built-Ford-Tough, you need to replace it. Its is called a canister purge valve solenoid and yes it "can" have effects to how the engine performs. It is minor in most cases, but it needs to be replaced. I have a few if you need one. $15 + ride. And yes, its the oem part just like the pic.
