I just replaced the ignition switch in our 1971 truck. The truck doesn't crank nor click when i turn the key. although the engine cranks when i bump the solenoid. Can you guys throw me some ideas to help me narrow down my problem.
if you've replaced the switch already, it sounds like the switch may not be getting power. check your wiring from the battery, across the front, down the driver side of the engine compartment, and through the firewall.
Automatic? How's the neutral safety switch? Try holding the shift lever UP higher and see if it works. Typically they get outta whack and need adjusted. It's on the bottom of the column(under dash).
also make sure you have all the proper wires on the starter solenoid.
Someone had a wire off on mine when I got it.
Made it so the ignition switch only had power when the truck was running.
I was having to crank it by arching the solenoid until I found and fixed the issue.
