Blackwater Engines - Is .032" Piston Over Block Normal?

OK guys, I lost my Credit Card Chargeback with Blackwater, so now I'm stuck with this longblock that is far worse than my old longblock in pretty much every way. I'll post the whole story in another thread. For now I'm going to do a few small threads to address individual concerns.

This question goes out to all of the machinists, or those with access to the machine tolerances for the 6.0L.

What is normal? and what is acceptable? Piston over Block deck surface clearance at Top Dead Center.

The reman I got from Blackwater comes over the block deck surface by at least .032" or .8mm. There may have been another couple thousands in there if I played around with TDC and had some more feeler gauges to add, but .032" was the thickest gauge in the feeler set I was using and it is at least that.
THIS MEANS THAT THE PISTON ACTUALLY COMES UP INTO THE THICKNESS OF THE HEAD GASKET WHICH IS NOT MUCH MORE THAN .032"!!!! I had one mechanic I talked to get a really scared look on his face when I told him this and showed him the pics.

Can we get a consensus on this?

man over deck is what you want. thats how you make 17.5:1 compression. all is good there. below deck pistons in this case would mean a bent rod or bent crank they should all be about .030 over deck.
on a pump gas 10:1 running a flat top at or below deck with valve reliefs cut in would be normal, but this aint no gasser here.

So if .030 is ideal, .032" is acceptable then?

Do you happen to know what the compressed thickness of the head gasket is?

no idea. also the correct way to measure the over deck would be with a dial indactor on a solid fixed mount.

Here is the tool you should be using or one on this type.

You can find it here CCA Racing Torque Plates

Thanks to Sean in my other post we now know that the term for this value is:
"Protrusion"

and on the 6.7L this value should be:
Piston height above crankcase deck (protrusion) 0.4182 mm +/- 0.01 mm (0.016 in)
So on the 6.7L the number needs to be half of what I have.
Anyone have this value on the 6.0L?

I just pulled the book down and could not find the piston protrusion
value. I did see the over size stoping at .030" over and nothing else.
I found this post over here powerstrokenation.com
Piston Protrusion - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum
and am waiting for a PDF to load (my connection sucks today)

Try looking at this I have not been able to look myself yet.

From what I see in this post:
http://powerstrokenation.com/forums/...ad.php?t=78600

the protrusion value should be:
.010-.034"

Well I am almost ready to start building my own "Crate engines"
What do you guys think? Most likely they cost as much as the Ford ones.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!
~They bored it .040" over when they claimed they don't use any block that requires more than .020"
~They re-used valve stems from an engine that had a broken injector or glow plug tip break off and crunch around in the cylinder. ALL OF THE VALVE STEMS WERE USED NOT NEW, and 4 of them looked like they had been beaten with hammers and sharp metal objects.
~They lied to me multiple times about the gaskets and O-rings they use.
~Plan on buying all new injectors or having your injectors "recertified" by an approved shop if you want the warranty
~plan on installing a New or Officially re manufactured Turbo if you wand the warranty.
~Plan on completely taking apart your old engine to take pictures as proof that it wasn't damaged beyond repair. My old engine only had blown head gaskets, that's it and they charged me half of the core fee claiming there was a hole in the block.... They are the most dishonest bunch of people I have ever dealt with.

where are you located?
I now recommend doing a rebuild on YOUR Block that you know isn't some block that is FUBAR like me and others have gotten.

Whoa Anthony, I just saw that big gouge in the cylinder wall on that block. Was that before the machining?

It must've been something suspended in oil,, prob a cigarette ash. Lol. No gouges in that for sure. It does look like it tho huh?? That's funny. Cyl 1 was the damaged one on that engine. I can't tell,, but that's either 2 or 7,, or 4or 5,, lol. Can't tell or remember.
