1951 Ford F6 Dump Truck

Have a few questions for you all. How do I find out engine size? It is a flat 8. Is the f6 a one ton? Any know where I can get new rims for it? Any help with parts sources or manuals is appreciated.

Boon, Welcome to the forum. Chances are you have a 239 CID engine unless it has been bored or swapped. The F6 is much more than one ton rated. Check the data plate for rating. One of the guys on here may have a set of wheels, they're scarce.
What are your plans for the truck. Pictures?
Classic Haulers, Dennis Carpenter are good for parts.

Welcome to the group. I see you are in MO, what part of the state? If you are wanting tubeless 19.5" wheels I can help. If you want tubeless 22.5s I know that a couple of the guys have found partial sets, but don't know for sure that they are for sale. Whether anybody has a full set available right now I can't say, but suspect you might be able to piece a set together. A third option would be the safer side ring style 20" tube types, but I don't know of any available sets right now. Stu

Welcome to FTE! We seem to have several new guys from Missouri. That's awesome. I'm right in the center of the state.

We do love pictures.
Here is an excellent reference to have: 1948-56 Ford Truck Master Parts Catalog CD - HiPo Parts Garage
It is well worth the $22.

Welcome to FTE. The f6 is a 2 ton truck. And as stated prior should be A 239 flathead.

19.5" wheels are a good option for replacent wheels and tire availablility.
Ive got some 22.5" wheels but still coordinating a possible sale on one of the sets.

Post some pictures of your truck. We love pictures.

All three options I listed are safe. It's just a matter of weighing the options. The 19.5 and 22.5s are tubeless and less hassle, the 20s are tube type like your current widow makers. The 19.5 tires are shorter than your stock 20s, while the 22.5s will be the same or bigger. There's been a lot written here describing the options. You might do a Google search on the subject using my user name. Stu

Are 19.5 wheels easy to find? They sound like the best option. Tires are almost touching the fenders now, so a little smaller would help. Gonna use the truck on our farms to haul firewood, gravel and whatever else I think needs to be moved. I'm not sure how the two speed rear end operates. Is it vacuum? Do you have to be rolling to change it, or can I just move the lever on the rear end? Where is the data plate located? Does the carb have a name on it? I'll try and post pics if I can figure it out. Do you do it in the garage?

If you have old yards in your area you might find any of the options. I've done yard tours through MO to find them with success. Otherwise you'd have shipping investment. I'll have to defer to the guys that have the two speed axle on that part of your question. The data plate is on the glove box door, and VIN also is located on the passenger side frame rail near the motor mount. The carb should be a Holley 97 iirc. To post pics it's easiest to use a Photobucket or similar account. Stu

Interesting, we have another new member that lives in Willow Springs with username Robbie Mcrib. He has a 51 F1. You need to look him up.

The 19.5s seem to be the wheel of choice. Data plate should be on the glove compartment door, possibly door jam. I always heard you should be in low range any time you got the truck off road or into a "tight" spot where you needed all the gearing and power, as you could not change the gear unless the truck was moving.

Here are 2-speed axle shifting instructions. These are from a 53-56 truck. It was mounted on the sun visor. Hope this helps you.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

How do I determine which flathead 8 I have? I see there is an "E" and "R" series. Still can't seem to find one piece wheels for the truck.

If you have an F6, 99% that you have the R (239) engine. The E (337) was only available on the F7 & F8 trucks.
