Oil dipstick issue

Hello all!

Well, I have an issue. I bought a lokar oil dipstick that is a push in not knowing that mine is a screw in.

is there a way to make this dipstick work or do I have to return it and get a factory dipstick?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Carefully drill your hole out so it fits.

Lokar's are junk imo, you'll blow oil at speed...source the correct dip stick.

Never had a lokar for the oil but did have one for an automatic transmission. I can't say any thing good about them other than they are pretty. It was real hard to add fluid to the trany though the tiny hole in the fill tube. They did provide an adapter for it but it got lost right away so i had to come up with a funnel that's real small and will probably get miss placed too. Plus none of the fill markings on the dip stick were in the right areas.

I might just go with the factory oil dipstick tube. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Most 4x4 had a screw in dipstick tube screwed into oil pan the 2wd had a pressed in dipstick tube. Get a factory screw in tube or try getting one from the junk yard

You can call a couple Ford Dealers and check with them .You might get lucky some dealer may have one or they may be able to give you some info on getting one.Other option is to make one .

You can make one from 3/8 steel fuel line using a ferrule instead of the flared end.. on a 460 it works..

Sounds like a plan but what size is the bolt that screws into the pan?

We are talking dipstick tube right? The fitting on a 3/8 fuel line trans line should screw in to the oilpan .The nut size is 9/16 or 5/8 thats the size wrench you need I believe the thread size is 3/8 pipe thread .

if a person were to plug the dipstick hole and somehow make a check plug in the pan itself(like a rear differential would be) would that be possible? i dont what level of the pan would be proper without having the pan out and filling it to make a mark. that would be a forever accurate but difficult to check oil. that was something i was wondering before. i know how hard it is to find new dipstick tubes.

i also thought of just threading the hole for pipe thread, insert a longer pipe nipple and attach a stick to a pipe cap. would have to trial and error the length of the stick but should work and be solid.

Did any FE's come with screw in dipsticks? The front sumps are press in and all the the rear sumps I've seen are riveted on . . . and leak.

Not to my knowledge, but if FE's are....yea, if you find one keep it and record it for posterity.
