2000 Excursion won't start in park but starts in neutral...

I recently experienced a starting problem in that the vehical won't start in park but will start in neutral. It also appears the shift column is a bit hokey in that it's sloppy shifting back into park. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's perhaps a worn guide (plastic) in the shift mechinism in the column?...any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have the manual in front of me, but there is an adjustment to the shift cable and indicator to get everything lined up. I don't remember the steps right off hand. It should be a simple adjustment.

If it were an Expedition I would say look under the column for a pair of hex (or Torx?) screws and tighten them. They get loose and it effects the throw of the shifter. Not sure if it is the same on the Excursion.

Well I know the Econoline is the same....the excursion should be the same. My guess is that your hex bolt might have fell off....

Do NOT screw with the adjustment which is only for the indicator. Do check for the commonly loose Torx screws as they will account for more than 90% of the occurrences of your symptom.

I've had this no start condition with my 97 EB. Tightened the very loose boots last night, thank you.
