I have a 73 F600 w/ a 14ft dump bed with 24" sides. It had a hitch on the bar that comes down from the dump bed not the frame. Is it ok to tow a trailer hooked to the bed instead of the frame (The frame does not come out far enough for a hitch)? I'll only be towing a trailer w/ a bobcat with total weight w/ trailer about 7000 lbs. Thanks

 

so your bed overhangs the frame and then you wanna tow a 7000 lb trailer off the back of that? sounds a bit sketchy to me. No one on here is gonna be able to give you an intelligent answer, none of us know how that dump bed is built, what the hitch looks like, how the bed attaches to the frame, etc.

 

Even with a dump bed with lots of overhang, hitches on dump trucks are generally frame attached. It can take a bit of fitting, but frame mount is better me thinks.

 

The answer would be no.. Extend your frame and hook to it. How would you ever dump it or just raise the bed. Unless you don't intend too, then attach the bed to the frame so they cannot separate and that might work.. Bolt it, weld it, just make it solid..
