Oil Filter Studies and Rankings

I was wanting to have an ongoing thread about oil filters and their quality. Anyone that has interesting posts or studies conducted on oil filters as well as actual rankings then please post them here.

Thank you!

I will be posting some older links to articles where studies have been done.Gary this will make a nice 8 page micro analysis thread for whenever you have the time.

The only filter I use is Baldwin. The B2 fits almost all of the older Ford V8's. I get them for around $2.75 and they always are ranked within the top 5 when you look at the studies.

Wow, $2.75. I thought I was doing really good getting them for $3.50 last August.
Wix 51515 is the other filter I get, about $4.50 locally. Better than Motorcraft even by Motorcraft's report.

Napa gold 1515 is the same as the Wix 51515 and Carquest brand filters are also made by Wix. Also I believe in the rule you get what you pay for. And alot of time you can find filter sales in the spring at NAPA store I know we just had our sale this past weekend during that time you could pick up a 1515 for $2.88 which every store has a different sale discount.

Here's another good resource. Keep in mind that most Chrysler engines for years took the same filter as Ford. Opinions and Recommendations - Oil Filters Revealed - MiniMopar Resources

I was looking at MiniMopar last night, and found it pretty wild that Purolator and Motorcraft FL-1A filters were identical.

I also liked hearing that Motorcraft uses a nitrile rubber anti-drainback valve and a metal bypass valve. So much better than Fram's plastic junk that won't seal.

I believe that is the number one issue with the orange can of death. The anti drain back valve doesn't seal and lets the contaminated oil get back into the system w/o being filtered.
