Thinking of buying a 2012
I looked at a 2012 Ford Super Duty F-250 4WD SuperCab longbed XLT Truck
3.73 Axle Ratio w/Electronic Locking Rear Axle
XLT Premium PKG
18" chrome clad wheels
LT275/65R18E BSW all-season tires
6-way pwr driver seat
pwr adjustable pedals
autolamp/rainlamp
autolock/auto-unlock
SecuriCode keyless entry keypad on driver side
bright metallic exhaust tip
chrome tow hooks
unique chrome mirror caps
chrome pickup bed tie-down hooks
6" angular chrome step bars
electrochromic rearview mirror w/compass
fog lamps
LCD productivity screenThis feature is pretty cool
steering wheel controls
SYNC
Snow Plow Prep PKG
Electric Shift-On-The-Fly Transfer Case
Roof Clearance Lights
Sync Voice Activated Communications & Entertainment System w/Applink
Bluetooth capability
USB port
audio input jack
911 Assist
vehicle health reports
turn-by-turn navigation
real-time traffic (AppLink provides control of certain smart phone application using SYNC voice commands. Connect to apps like Pandora & more w/your iPhone
Blackberry or Android platform mobile phones.)
Upfitter Switches
Power mirrors
over all it's a pretty nice riding truck for a 4x4 (would be the 1st 4x4 after 25 years of 2wd). It seems that the vacuum lines on the shift on the fly can be a problem down the road, but something that would have to be read up on for future repairs when the problem arises.
MSRP @ Just shy of $45,000
Invoices @ $41,842 (looked @ it)
Got them down to $40,500 (3% under invoice)
-$3,500 Ford rebate (gambling it might get better for April, I'm sure it will stay the same)
Out the door with all admin & title charges would be $37,500
I have to wait 2 more weeks for the American Quarter Horse Association to arrive, another $500 rebate to apply, bringing it to $37,000 cash out the door. Which I think is pretty fair.
Now if I would finance I could take the $1500 rebate also, but the FICO points are more important at this point in time than the rebate.
So possibly in a couple weeks a new ride could be in the driveway and the wife will get the truck in the sig.

I have the same truck without the premium package and without the electric lock rear diff.
The only thing I've done to mine is swap the stock tires for BFG A/T KO's of the stock size.
I've been real happy with mine. I bought it in November of last year new off the lot and now I only have 1400 miles on it. It's smooth, quiet, I think the ride is good compared to my old 74 Dodge 4x4 Powerwagon with solid axle 1 ton suspension. I guess it's all relative to what you're used to. Some complain about the stiff ride, and you definitely know you're driving a work truck. That snow plow package will ride stiff.
Best mileage I've done so far has been 14-15 mpg on an all highway trip. Most of my driving has been in town. We've had some snow off and on most of this winter, so lots of 4x4 time and lots of warm up windshield defrost time has killed my mileage this winter. I park outside all the time, and takes 15 min run time to heat and defrost the windshield. It doesn't take me that long to drive to work after though. I think I've averaged 8 to 9 mpg considering all that.
I don't have all the fancy electronic gizmos on mine that you do, but I admit I have come to really like the satellite radio. Thought I would just keep it for the free 6 months, but I think I'll keep it.
So far I've had no issues with the elect shift 4x4. Mine is still brand new, but I've had that 4wd shifted in and out a bunch this winter, sometimes several times per drive. No complaints yet. I do worry about it staying reliable years down the road, but figure I'll worry about it after the warranty is done. I did get the extended warranty. If it becomes an issue later on, I'll probably just switch it to manual hubs.
Rear seat passenger room is almost nil, but it looks like you already have the same cab size, so you're used to that. If I carried passengers regularly, which I don't, I would go with the crew cab.

It has Michelin tires, better than the Conticraps.
No Sirius radio, but that will be added after if I take the truck. I was surprised that the truck are ordered with out it. As far as the back seat it only gathers misc. work stuff, I use the truck as a daily drive/ work and it will rack up 50K+/- miles a year.

Aside from the roof clearance lights, the snow plow prep pkg, and that its a super cab longbed it has the same options as mine. Oh, and a different color.
The productivity screen is really cool! And my favorite is the backup camera.
Sounds like a great deal!!! Be sure to post pics when you get it.

Two months age I just bought a new 2012 F250 XL Crew Cab 4X2. List was 36,180 and I got it for 28,360. Equipped as follows:
1. Preferred Equipment Pkg 600A
2. E locking rear axle
3. Power equip group
4. 10000 GVWR
5. Trailer Brake Controller
6. Tow mirrors, manual extend, power adj and heated
7. Cloth seats
8. Aux audio input jack
9. XL value pkg: Cruise control and AM/FM CD
with clock
If almost 8000 was taken off mine than surely they can do better than that on your XLT. The dealer I bought from has 4 more just the same as mine for about the same price.

Had the wife put a down payment to hold it till I'm back home next Thursday, ordered a Leer 100R cap also. Still will keep the V10 for the Wife, would of kept driving it for another year but a 4x4 is needed now. From the short test drive I took last week it seemed to feel pretty spunky, I'm sure I'll have plenty of seat time to see how it will compare to the V10. I'm sure the gas mileage will be better anyways.
No Sirius radio and will have to get that taken care.

scraprat,
I look forward to hearing some feedback comparing the new 6.2 to your current 6.8 in the way of performance and mpg.
I have sat on the fence for years now as to whether I want to go test drive the 6.2, as I have read many who say the 6.8 delivers in a way no V8 has in HP/TQ delivery. Don't get me wrong, I love my V10 mated to the 6-speed manual transmission. However, sometimes I think that I'm getting older and maybe a few creature comforts would be nice. Kind of have my eye on a 2013 F-250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 I can pick up new for $41.5 plus TT&L. It's a long way from my current vinyl seats and rubber floormats reg cab.
Again, congratulations on the new truck. Looks like you are keeping the V10, so now you have the best of both worlds going for you in the truck world.

I have resurrected my old thread for an update.
After almost 8 years and 206,000 mile on the odometer this truck has been great. Normal oil changes every 7,000 mile, 1 battery replaced, sparkplugs done at 100k & 200k , 4 sets of tires, 3 sets of brakes, both headlamps replaced, 1 turn signal bulb and 3 bulbs on the roof clearance lights, all the fluids changed at 190k area. Couldn't ask for a better truck.
Started the process of building/ ordering another truck almost identical to the one in the original post. With just a couple of things added that I wished this one had.
Here's the build with my comment by some of the features. I want the 7.3 engine but in order to get that in a F250 it's either 3.55 or 4.30 and I like the 3.73 for my long drives, carrying weight in the back and towing the Wolverine (2,200#). So I'm going with the F350 to get the 3.73 gears, I don't mind the truck ride.
F350 XLT Supercab, 8' box, SRW
Medium earth grey cloth interior
Paint: Oxford White (I've grown to like White with tint/ chrome accents. )
Powertrain: 7.3 gas engine, 4x4, 3.73 Electronic Locking Axle
(I like the 6.2 but liked the V10 6.8 more and I believe the 7.3 should fill that void)
Packages:
*Snow plow/ Camper package
*XLT Premium package
Exterior Options:
*Front & rear splash guards/ mud flaps
*Tailgate step with tailgate assist... (I use the step feature all the time getting into and out of the bed, worth the expense. )
*Wheel well liner front & rear...(I added the rear to my 2012 and always wondered why they aren't stock)
*5th wheel/ gooseneck hitch prep package (I only added this for an option if my dsl dually goes in to the shop I could move the 5th wheel temporarily)
*Engine block heater
*Skid plates_ transfer case and fuel tank (I do a lot off road, can't hurt having protection.)
*LED roof marker/ clearance lamps
Interior Options:
*Floor covering_ Carpet delete ... (I've hated cleaning the carpet from day one in the 2012, I like the ease of the vinyl floor.)
*Upfitter Switches
I'll order a new Leer truck cap, Line-X bedliner and get the windows tinted. It should be a clone to what I have now.
Truck & towing specs:
430 HP, 475 torque
GCWR_ 23,500#
Conventional weight carrying_ 15,000#
5th wheel towing _ 16,300#
Compared to my grocery getter/ tow vehicle for the Wolverine X4 (2,200#)...
2012 F250 XLT Supercab, 8' box, 6.2 engine, 3.73 gears, 4x4
385 HP, 405 torque
GCWR_ 19,000#
Conventional weight carrying_ 12,200#
5th wheel towing _ 12,100#

Hi. Thank you for the long-term update on your truck. It is so encouraging to see the 6.2 trucks go well into the 200k mile marker with limited issues.
I will be interested in your overall thoughts on the 7.3. If it's as solid as the 6.2, it's going to be an awesome option for years to come.
