Newbie 302 // Mustang II // Rear sump?

ok guys.. I've been lurking around for a while. I need some help. I have a 1950 F1 that we have replaced the stock front end with a TCI Mustang II. The truck already has a small block ford that my father and his buddies put in it before my dad passed. I have the truck now and am slowly making some changes to it.

I found the motor code c80e 6015a today on the block and it appears it is a 1968 302.

Evidently I have to change the oil pan to a rear sump. Do any of you guys have this same set up? Can you make recommendations of which oil pan to buy?

I found this one on Summitt's site but it appears to be for a different year small block......

Thanks !!

One of the guys in my truck club did a rear sump pan swap . The vans had a rear sump pan . I had to go to junk yard and pull engine high enough to get pan off to get a special main cap bolt that has a stud in the center for the bracket of the sump that comes all the the way from front oil pump to rear.. Took me 4 hours WHEW He had bought crome oil pan from a place like Jes or Summit. ....Dude

Hey TMC,
Welcome Aboard! Nice to see another 1950 on here. We put a 351W in our's so I'm not sure the pan would be the same. You should be able to find one on Summit. If you have a pic your post will generate more attention.
Tell us a little more about your build plan when you get a chance.

I run a pan in my '37 with stang II out of an '81 F-100 302 rear sump pickup. Might be a possibility?

Thanks for the info guys.

Ben, I've found a few that may work but trying to keep the budget as low as possible.

The truck was a daily driver before my dad passed. He paid a guy to change the front end to something with power steering. The guy working on the truck jacked the job up and then almost died from a medical condition. My dad went to get his truck and brought on home on a trailer. This crushed my dad as his health was failing so he sold the truck a week later because he could not fix it. It took me 7 years to buy it back and has been in my garage for year or so before I started working on it. At this point it is a 302 with a C4 which I plan to keep. We have cranked the motor and then pulled the drive train out and started body work. I do have a few pics and will try to post some shortly.

It worked on my '37. Curious to see how it works in a f100.

This is mine. "96 Explorer 5.0 found in 2-wheel drive and all wheel drive. NOT 4-wheel drive. 4-wd didnt have 5.0\302
This pan fits extremely well! All aluminum, go to your local yards and find one.
That might cost you $25 bucks. don't forget the oil pickup tube that goes with it. Just thought though...'68 302 is probably a rope type rear main seal and these are a one piece rear main rubber seal....may not work on your motor...

Thats good info! I didn't know that about the oil pans on the explorers/mountaineers. Back when I went to the junk yard to get my gt40p heads off of a mercury mountaineer, I should have gotten the oil pan too, that would have save someone some cash lol. I know I spent about $100 on a new oil pan setup

SO I am doing the exact same swap right now. I have a '68 302 in my 56 and swapping in a Corvette C4 suspension. What did you ever find to work?
