A few more questions....

• The speedometer works, but it's way behind the curve. How would I go about fixing that?
• Fuel gage works, but it's also showing 1/4 tank when it's full, how do you fix that?
• What do the original tail lights look like and where are they mounted?
• What do I need to know about replacing the wood bed?
• Ignition key bezel, where can I find one?
• Tires.... 7.00x16, seem to be hard to find. Can I use 7.50x16? I want to use regular tires up front an mud tires on the back.
• Straight pipes or muffler?
• Water pump squeaks, is that normal? Is there a lube point on them?
• Radiator looks rough, but holds water and pressure, should I replace it or wait?

I don't have any experience here, but those rear tires look pretty stuffed already, I don't know that there would be room for more in there

Looks like a generator to me. There is an aftermarket Alt that looks like

Sorry my brain isn't working today. It's a later generator, as it's a 12V system.

Answers I can offer:
Fuel Gauge - Check the float on the sending unit - these things can deteriorate over time. Replacements are available. You'll need to remove the sending unit and extract the arm and attached float from the tank to inspect it.

Tail lights - they attach to captured nuts on the side of the bed/tailgate area. There are brackets from LMC and others needed to hold the lights in place. The driver's side bracket would also hold the license plate and the tail light will have a white down lens to illuminate the plate. Locations are shown:

Haven't found a source for any ignition parts - watch eBay.

700 x 16 tires are available from Coker Tire

Straight pipes / Muffler - what's your tolerance for cabin noise?

If the water pumps are squeaking - you should plan to rebuild / replace.

Unless you've had the radiator acid dipped, you don't know the real condition. If you like the excitement of uncertainty, wait for it to fail. Otherwise, have it cleaned at a radiator shop.

If you're a 12 volt generator and aren't using drop resisters on your gauges that could be your problem.

Good point, I have no clue, I didn't do the conversion.

Do you think 7.50x16 tires will fit? I'm looking to get new tires this week.

What would happen to a 6V system if a 12V battery was introduced?
How can I tell if that's a 12V generator, I was told it was... but.....?

I see a 12V coil, but that doesn't really mean that a 12V battery and a 12V coil makes a 12V conversion. If the generator is also 12V and the headlights are 12V, I don't think the rest has an inverter somewhere, as I didn't see one.

Some of the easies ways to tell is pull a bulb out of a taillight and check the number of what it belongs to... Also a headlight has great numbers for confirmation... Also are you gauges original being used? A great answer to know is if it's neg or pos ground?

From my trip to Kansas the week before last. During that trip, I went back to Esbon Kansas, where my Grandfather started his drilling business. Our family moved there in the 1880's and my Great Grandfather died there in the early 1980's.
