92 f350 with a 351 exhaust question
I have a 92 f350 4x4 with a 351w in it. It has 166k miles on it. I am wanting to do some exhaust work to it in hopes of getting a little more power and better fuel millage. I am not sure what size the pipe is but I am guessing its around 3in coming out of manifolds going into a cat then coming out single to a muffler then back out of muffler as duels on smaller pipe like 2 1/2in and out the back right side of truck. I am wondering if the cat could be plugged? My thought was to cut everything off right before the cat and put a pair of cherry bombs on and run it out the back as duels. Want it louder anyway "its a v8 and should sound like one lol" Looks like everything is stock and original on it right now. What do you think? They don't do inspections here in South Dakota.

I would love to put headers on it but just cant afford it right now but will do in the future. Trying to find a cheap way to do it right now. I just spent around $500 redoing all the joints and seals on the front axle ball, u-joints and bearings along with all the steering joints and plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter and some other odds and ends.

on my 91, I cut the pipes just after the O2 sensor and put on a Y pipe, a high flow racing cat after that and to top it off a thrush turbo muffler shooting out the side. If your state doesn't do inspections why not straight pipe it, or if you don't want it that loud, put a muffler on it and call it a day.

The CAT went bad on my 97 F350, so I cut it off at the flange, leaving 2 pipes coming off the manifolds. Then I ran some 2.25" pipe, 2 Cherry Bombs, and about 2 feet of tailpipe behind the mufflers, with turndowns right in front of the axle. IT IS LOUD! Almost annoying loud, at highway speeds, but it was cheap, (MIDAS wanted about $1200.00), and it works.
Eventually I'd like some headers, and true dual exhaust, but not for a while yet.

Don't want it straight pipe loud lol but 2 cherry bombs sound good. Think I will cut it right before the cat and after the muffler and put straight pipe and 2 cherry bombs on. that would make it duel exhaust I think. Its a long pickup (crew cab with 8ft box) so there is allot of room under there. How do you know if your cat goes out or is going bad?

It seems to run better now that I did the tune up. I do have a manifold leak on the drivers side or some kind of exhaust leak over there. My millage is not very good. before I tuned it up I pulled trailer home that weighs about 1600 pounds and could not get out of 4th gear. After tune up I hooked to it to see if it made any difference and it seemed to pull it allot better!
