your tick may be a tock.

OK so I bought a 2008 ford f-150 5.4 from a dealership and after about 20 days I start to notice a ticking noise I searched the internet and saw alot of people talking about cam phaser this cam pahser that and so on and so on. Well I bought a warrenty when I got the truck so I thought I would take it back they go on to tell me that it is not covered because it has a aftermarket exuast. turns out that where they had connected the aftermarket with the factory was leaking causing it to tick or what they called a tocking noise so long story short if you have a aftermarket exuast this may be something to look at.

Was the aftermarket exhaust on it when you bought it?

You read my mind. That was the way it was sold to you, and thats the way the warrenty company accepted it. I don't think it will be easy, but if you keep calling both the dealership and warranty company (nicely) then you might have a case.

Ok cool thanks for the info my co-worker was a finance manager to so that also helps I am taking it to a good friend of mine at the Muffler shop to get a correct diagnosis. Since the dealership could not pin point the issue and they had the truck for 3hours. I will keep everyone up to date. Thanks again.

Ok so the truck is in the shop now turns out it was a manifold gasket that was leaking and of course nuts and bolts are not coverd under the warrenty and if some of the studs break that more money out of my pocket.

Well, good thing it was minor. Sure it will be a little cash, but the MPGs will improve and the truck will be a pleasure to drive again.

Stock manifolds ? They are well known for those gaskets leaking, actually the manifold typically warps which causes the gasket to leak so hopefully they replace the manifold. I had one replaced and the manifold, studs and labor were about $1200. Supposedly they installed a updated gasket and manifold that are less prone to warping.
Aftermarket exhaust wont cause the manifold leak, I would pursue warranty....they have to prove a modification was the direct cause and with the large number of these that go bad on stock trucks they wont be able to prove it. Ask about the Magnuson-moss warranty act.....that usually encourages them.
