if it set a light I sure would think you could look in codes stored history and see what it WAS on for.

did they check any other values for possible clues to the issue? ipr, icp, temp, anything? of course If they did they prob wouldnt say anything as they didnt say so I guess.

I'm betting bad IDM. Mine did something similar. It would miss like the engine would turn on and off at random times and it didn't have any rhyme or reason to it. One thing that seemed to make a difference was actually moving the IDM. Sometimes I would unbolt it from the fender, knock on it with a screwdriver or something, and then reinstall it and it would run again. I had a mechanic that let me try one off another truck he had. Worked like a charm.

If the scanner wasn't communicating with the truck they either don't have a scanner that wow with a obs or the OBDII port isn't getting power.

Check the fuse for the cig. lighter. It powers the OBDII port.

If the light was set then you have a code

The code issue seems fishy to me also, but if the CE light was coming on, I would think the garage isn't using the correct scanner. I would also take the valve covers off and actually check the inside of the connectors, because sometimes you can't see the damage from the outside. My IDM did not have any water in it, but it was bad. I know these are frustrating problems because changing out these parts is a lot of money and every time you try something it may or may not fix it. I was fortunate to have a mechanic who wanted to be sure of the problem before he threw parts at it.

As it happens, I was driving today and my truck just died while I was at a light. It would not start after cranking it and it appears that my brand new IDM took a dump. It is the exact same symptoms I had last time. I finally got it started after pushing it off the road but it runs at most for 15 seconds before the WTS light comes on while it's running and and then it coughs and dies. I put the SCMT on it and it says "too many codes to read" which is what it did last time. I'm hoping its just another bad idm and not that my truck is eating these things. I do recommend doing the video. I did that last time, maybe yours will look like what mine did/is doing.
